Disable the Persistent Cast Notification in Android

Last Updated on July 28, 2017

If you’ve got multiple devices on your home WiFi network, then you might have seen this persistent cast notification on your Android phone.

Fortunately, there is a workaround for disabling the cast notification. It requires a little work on your part, though. Using the Google Cast settings from Android Settings, you can turn off the Cast notification for your phone. The problem here is that you will need to perform this step for every device on your network.

If you’ve got five devices on your WiFi network, then you will need to repeat the step five times. This is ridiculous and absurd. Though, it is currently the only way to circumvent this until Google updates the Play services to remove this crap.

The most annoying thing about this cast notification is the fact that anyone connected to the network can push whatever media they want to your TV. If you’ve got this annoying friend who likes to tinker with your stuff, I’m sure you’ll find him messing with this cast notification at least once.

Now, this is not to say that Google hasn’t put any thought into implementing this feature in the Play services. It’s obviously a well-intentioned feature which aims to allow people to easily play media on their networks. The implementation is a little sketchy, though. I’m sure it’ll be fixed, but in the meantime, here’s a way to disable the cast notification on your Android phone.

Disable Cast Notification on Android Per-Device on your Network

Head over to the Settings and the look for Google. Once there, select Google Cast. You will get the toggle to disable “Show remove control notifications” for your device. Do this for each device that you want to disable the cast notification on.

Again, this is an annoying to do for every device in your network. You also need to add the fact that anyone willing to mess with you can quickly revert this setting on their phone.
