Disable “Show Notifications” Popup in Chrome and Firefox

Last Updated on December 9, 2017

Lately, a lot of websites have been showing this annoying popup for you to Show notifications on your web browser. Both Chrome and Firefox support push notifications, so they are trying to cash-in on that.

Disable Show Notifications Popup

If you find that feature annoying, you can permanently disable this for all the websites forever. Here’s how you can do that for Chrome and Firefox.

Disable Show Notifications Popup for Chrome

In Chrome, click on the 3-dot menu on the top-right of your browser window and go to Settings. You can also type chrome://settings in the address bar. In the Settings page, scroll down. Go to Content settings > Notifications.

You can also directly go to chrome://settings/content/notifications.

Toggle the Ask before sending button. This will turn off the Show notifications popup for all the web pages you visit in Chrome.

Disable Show Notifications Popup for Firefox

For Firefox, you can disable the Show notifications popup using the about:config settings page.

Open Firefox and type about:config in the address bar. You’ll get a warning that changing settings on this page might void your warranty!

Uncheck the Show this warning next time and click on the I accept the risk! button.

Press Ctrl + F to open the search box on the page. Type com.webnotifications.enabled. By default, this option is set to true. Set it to false by double-clicking on it.

Now, keep this in mind that, all the websites you have previously given permission to show notifications will still be able to push their content to you. You will have to individually disable the popup for each one of them from the settings for either browser.
