Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: Lag Fix – The controversial game Star Wars is coming back with a newer iteration called “Fallen Order”, with massive changes to the gameplay and complete loot overhaul. The loot box system of the last game was a disaster of a lifetime and did massive damage to EA’s image, EA has promised that this game won’t have any loot boxes and players will have a different way of obtaining everything (a season pass maybe?).
I’ve talked about this every time, but AAA games are known for not having perfect launches. Red Dead Redemption 2 and Modern Warfare both are big titles made by big developers, both games had problems and bugs on launch day. At this point every player knows that the game on initial launch day will have issues, this generally takes a few hours to settle. Modern Warfare still hasn’t fixed the installing shaders bug. In this article, we will talk about fixing FPS lagging issues and possible fixes for them.

These are a few things that you can do in order to make the game run better for you.
Below are the system requirements of the game.
Official Minimum Requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 7/8.1/10
- Processor (AMD): FX-6100
- Processor (Intel): i3-3220
- Memory: 8 GB
- Graphics card: Radeon HD 7750, GeForce GTX 650
- Hard-drive space: 55 GB
Official Recommended Requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 7/8.1/10
- Processor (AMD): Ryzen 7 1700
- Processor (Intel): i7-6700K
- Memory: 16 GB
- Graphics card (AMD): RX Vega 56 or GTX 1070
- DirectX: 11 Compatible video card or equivalent
Okay, so the game requires you to have Windows 7 at least, on top of that you need an i3 3rd Gen as per the minimum requirements. At this point, I don’t really trust these as the game is gonna be heavy, the recommended requirements have i7 and 1070, so your hardware should be somewhere in between or you need an upgrade. Also, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7 support coming 2020. The older versions also have compatibility, security, and performance issues.
Let’s start by making a few tweaks to the graphics card settings. I have mentioned the settings for both Nvidia and AMD graphic cards that you can use.
Nvidia Graphic Card Settings
Below are custom graphics card settings for users that will be running the game on Nvidia GPUs.
- Open up Nvidia’s Control Panel. Right-click on desktop > click Nvidia control panel
- Click Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings
- Find “Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order”, you can manually add the game if it’s not in the list
- Now, make the following changes:
Monitor Tech: G-Sync (If available)
Maximum Pre-rendered frames: 2
Threaded optimization: On
Power Management: Prefer Maximum Performance
Texture Filtering – Quality: Performance
Setting Power Management and Texture Filtering to Performance will make your graphics card do its best when it comes to performance. There’s a reason why these settings are given in the Control Panel.
AMD Graphic Card Settings
These are the settings for AMD GPU users.
- Anti-Aliasing Mode: Use Application settings
- Anti-aliasing Method: Multisampling
- Morphological Filtering: Off
- Anisotropic Filtering Mode: Use application settings
- Texture Filtering Quality: Performance
- Surface Format Optimization: On
- Wait for V-sync: Off
- OpenGL Triple Buffering: Off
- Shader Cache: AMD optimized
- Tesselation Mode: Override application settings
- Maximum Tesselation Level: Off
- GPU Workload: Graphics
- Chill: Off
- Frame Rate Target Control: Disabled
These settings are well made for most of the high-demanding games available at the moment. I will be making a few changes when the title is released in a few hours.
Update Device Drivers
Whenever a new game makes it’s arrival, especially when it’s a AAA title, Nvidia is known for pushing their optimized updates for the best performance with their graphic cards. I am not sure about AMD because I’ve never used an AMD card. Below are the links for downloading the latest drivers.
Update: Nvidia has already released a full-fledged optimization update for this game. You can fire up Geforce experience and get the update right away.
Tone Down Game Settings
The general rule of thumb for every game is if you are lagging it is always recommended to tone down the settings. Play around a little bit with the settings, turn down shadows and textures, this should help.

Turn off Windows Game Mode
Windows says that the Game mode helps in optimizing all-around windows processes, windows updates and other windows related stuff while running games if you have the game mode enabled. But this isn’t factually true, the game bar has been known for causing issues related to FPS. So it’s better to turn it off if you are not using it, Nvidia’s Shadowplay is better for capturing game clips.
- Click Start > Settings > Gaming
- On the Game Bar, set “Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar” to off.
- Now head to the Captures tab set the “Record the background while I’m playing a game” to Off.
- Lastly, click on the Game Mode tab, and turn it off.
Disable Discord in-game overlay
If you are using Discord like me, then I’d recommend you to change a few things. One such thing is, discord overlay, it’s not really something you need at all times. I use a two-monitor setup, so the overlay is useless for me. It is known for causing FPS related issues.
Disable Hardware Acceleration in Discord
- Open Discord
- Click on User Settings > Appearance
- Click on the Hardware Acceleration radio, this will turn it off.
Disable Discord in-game Overlay
- Open Discord
- Go to Overlay under App Settings
- Click on the “Enable in-game overlay”, this will turn it off.
Increase Game Priority
This is an old-school method of boosting FPS in certain games, this only affects the CPU relying Games.
- Press CTLR + Shift + ESC to open task manager
- Find Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and right-click > go to details
- Now right-click on the process’s .exe file and set priority to “high”.
This will prioritize your game over other windows applications and provide you with a little boost.
Update Windows
Last but not least, update Windows. Having old software can cause a lot of problems with the games.
The recent couple updates were weird and broke a lot of games, to fix those issues, Windows has already pushed out hotfixes and you can download them right away. If you are running an older version of Windows, I’d recommend you to download the updated version.
There was also an update that caused windows to use up a lot of RAM for its search bar’s function called Cortana. This also has been fixed, you just have to update.
Jedi Fallen Order: Game not launching
If for some reason your game is not launching at all. I would recommend you to do the things given below.
Verify Game Files
Whenever there’s an issue with a game, the first thing you should do is verify game files. Upon verification, the game will cross-check the files on your server with their files and fix any files that might be causing trouble. Most of the time this fixes the game not launching issue.
EA Servers are Overloaded
Another reason for the game not launching could be the server overload.
The game just released and so many people are trying to access it at the same time. This is also leading to long loading times and black screens. I had to restart my game a couple of times to get rid of this issue. This should be fixed within a few hours if EA takes action.
Crash on Startup, Black Screen, Game Won’t Launch
The game has just released and players are reporting issues such as Crashes on Startup, Black Screen and for some, the game wouldn’t even launch.
For me the culprit was my overclocked GPU, I went ahead and disabled MSI Afterburner, changed all the settings to stock and my game went running smoothly.
After doing this, I was able to play one single game online. After that my screen went black again.
The game is also lagging a lot on RTX 2060, I was only getting 50 FPS with Ultra settings. The game system requirements have GeForce GTX 1070 as recommended but still, there are multiple issues.
