Counter Strike 2 (CS2): Game Won’t Launch or Start

Last Updated on September 28, 2023

CS2 Game Won’t Launch: This is one of the most annoying problems, especially when it’s a multiplayer game where your teammates are waiting in the lobby, and your game won’t even start. I had the same issue until I applied a few traditional tweaks that I have covered in this article.

CS2, the year’s most anticipated release, will be launched sometime during the Summer. It upholds the tradition of Counter-Strike, yet boasts an updated engine, a sub-tick system for enhanced registry, and superior graphics, among other features.

CS2: Game Won’t Launch or Start

Remember that these are traditional tweaks that work with every broken AAA launch (as they are nowadays). So it can be possible that one thing might not work for you. I recommend you review all these options individually and check what works for you.

Restart Your PC

While this might sound crazy at first, I often had the game not launching issue. After looking into almost everything, a simple restart fixed the problem. This might be due to a conflicting application I have yet to discover.

My crashing problem was fixed with a simple restart; continue reading if this doesn’t work for you.

Shut down conflicting applications

This is a community recommendation; users have reported that these programs are known for crashes:

  • iCUE
  • Razer Synapse
  • Armory Crate

These applications are unimportant to me, so I uninstall them.

Disable Antivirus & Firewall

This is another traditional tweak that works most of the time.

One of the most common reasons for crashes is antivirus or firewall program interference. These programs are designed to protect your computer from harmful programs but can also block legitimate programs from running correctly.

If your game is frequently crashing, it may be due to antivirus or firewall interference. To fix this, you must add the game to your antivirus or firewall program’s list of exceptions. This will allow the game to run without interference and should help to fix the problem.

Disable Overclocking

In the game crashing/not launching fiasco, overclocking is the culprit most of the time. Some players were able to fix this issue by bringing their GPU and CPU to default frequencies. MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm are two popular tools used to overclock GPUs; both of these are known for creating problems for newer titles.

While it is unclear how many players are affected by the crashes, it is a good reminder that overclocking can be dangerous if not done correctly. It’s also worth noting that even if you don’t experience any crashes while overclocking, your system may still be unstable and could crash at any time.

Update Graphics Drivers

Updating computer graphic drivers is important for ensuring optimal performance and stability of the graphics components. Graphics drivers are the software that allows the operating system to communicate with the dedicated graphics card or integrated graphics processor in a PC.

When drivers are out of date, they may not be compatible with newer graphics cards or able to utilize the latest features. Updated drivers also often contain important security patches and fixes for bugs that could cause issues like system crashes, display errors, or other graphics problems.

The latest Nvidia Geforce Driver is 531.79

Install Visual C++ Redistributables

Visual C++ redistributable is a software component installed on a computer to run applications developed with Visual C++. Updating or installing this has helped solve the crashing issues in multiple games we covered earlier.

You can download Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One from here. Unzip the file and launch “install_all.bat” as Administrator.

Scan & Repair Game Files

For Steam Users:

  1. Open Steam and click on the Library tab.
  2. Right-click on Star Wars and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Local Files tab > click on the Verify Integrity of Game Files… button.
  4. Steam will start verifying the game files and fix any corrupted ones.

These were a few traditional tweaks that can help you fix the CS2 Not Launching problem. If your problem is still not solved, The last resort after this would be reinstalling the game and trying again. My problem was the Antivirus tinkering with the game, which I figured out quickly.
