New World: Fix Crashing, Black Screen, Game Not Starting

Last Updated on September 28, 2021

Closed beta users from all the forums are reporting issues such as Black Screen, New World Crashing on Start. In this article, we will find out some basic fixes that can iron out these issues.

New World is one of the most anticipated launches of this year, the game was clocking around 200k users at one point of the closed beta release. If you haven’t bought the game yet, you can’t play it because the closed beta is only available for users who pre-order the game.

If you head to to the discussions forum on Steam or the New World subreddit, there are numerous discussions about performance-related issues and things that are problematic in the game. People should realize that this is a closed beta and a beta release is for gathering feedback from the players. The final copy of the game should be well furnished and these problems won’t be there for sure.

Let’s find out what the problems are and how we can fix them.

How To Fix Crashing in New World

The game can crash due to numerous reasons, let’s start with the basics first.

Update Device Drivers

Whenever a new game makes its arrival, especially when it’s a AAA title, Nvidia is known for pushing their optimized updates for the best performance with their graphic cards. I am not sure about AMD because I’ve never used an AMD card. Below are the links for downloading the latest drivers.

Disable Any Overclocking Applications (GPU or CPU both)

Almost 9 out of 10 times, the crashing problem is caused due to overclocking. Many of us have clock speeds set to high or low, just set it to default. Try running the game without overclocking utilities like MSI Afterburner or the Zotac Firestorm, this should fix the problem. If you’re having trouble doing this, watch this YouTube video.

Fix Black Screen Issue in New World

Black Screen issues are also not rare. For New World, this is mostly happening due to the overloaded servers. The queue time was as high as 2-3 hours for some. This is something none of us can fix until Amazon does something from their end. Whenever there’s an extra load on servers, you’ll have to wait longer for your character to be placed on the server. The only way of dealing with this would be waiting for 5-10 minutes, you’ll eventually get in or you’ll be booted out of the game.

Amazon Games did tweet a few hours back that they are working on the server capacity. They probably did not expect 200k users to participate in a closed beta. So this is understandable.

If you are still not able to run the game smoothly, please report this to Customer support and they will help you out. Issues like crashing, random black screens, games not launching are very common for every release. The same things have happened with big releases such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Valhalla, and Cold war, but it was fixed within a day or two.
