Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Game Won’t Launch, Black Screen

Last Updated on November 12, 2020

Assassins’ Creed Valhalla – Game Won’t Launch: The game launch hasn’t exactly been perfect, there has been multiple bugs and issues that the players are facing. So far we’ve encountered a huge progression bug with the starter quests, audio issues, crashing and stuttering problems.

Assassin’s Creed is a title that needs no introduction, the Ubisoft title is known for excelling every single year it is introduced. The game has been getting amazing reviews from the Critics; TechRadar gave it 3.5/5, PCGamer gave it 92/100, GamesRadar gave it 4.5/5 and IGN gave Valhalla a solid rating of 8/10. I was very excited about the title myself, but the RPG element is something I don’t like about this game. I’ll stick to the story and leave the RPG thing for the grinders.

Problems aren’t exactly new for AAA titles, problems are known to arise since developers can’t test the games on a huge set of machines. The configuration of every PC is so different that the developers cannot actually test everything. That’s why developers take reports and push patches in the following days.

In this article we’ll find out how to fix the black screen and game not launching issues. Continue reading.

Game Won’t Launch, Black Screen Fix

There are a few ways this issue can be fixed:

Disable Overlay Apps:

Issue: Black Screen but Audio working

Fix: The black screen issue is most of the times caused due to conflict from various overlay applications. The most popular overlay apps are Nvidia Geforce Experience, Fraps and Discord etc. Games from Ubisoft tend to face problems due with Fraps or Geforce due to the FPS counter, I disabled Geforce and my problem was fixed.

Issue: Game won’t Launch

Fix #1: Try running the game as administrator. Right-click on the “acvalhalla.exe” file select “Properties” > Compatibility > Tick the checkbox “Run this program as an administrator”. Start the game directly by double-clicking on the exe file“.

Fix #2: Whitelist the “acvalhalla.exe” file in Windows Defender or any of the antivirus programs your PC might have installed. Antivirus programs are known for blocking applications that are newly installed and are not whitelisted in their database. If you are facing any issue, then you can just go ahead and whitelist Epic Games Launcher, Ubisoft Launcher and the “acvalhalla.exe” file.

Please keep in mind that the fixes mentioned above can work for both the issues.

Note: The developers have posted on the forums that they are aware of the issues and are working on a patch which will take care of all the issues. For now, you can use the fixes given below and then wait for the patch later on.

Here’s the message from the Ubisoft Dev:

Hey folks,

I can appreciate that it is frustrating to deal with and for that I am sorry.

I have passed this onto the team as well as any extra information we did not have previously. They are aware of this issue and are investigating it further.

Once we have more information to share we will do so. Once again, apologies for any inconvenience caused.

More information will be updated as soon as we receive it. Thanks for reading this article, drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
