How To Fix – CSGO Stuck on Initializing World

Last Updated on March 25, 2022

In this article, we will talk about How To Fix CSGO Stuck on Initializing World.

I’ve been playing CS: GO for more than 5 years now, the experience has been pretty good if we take out the cheaters. However, similar to every triple AAA title, CS:GO also suffers from a few issues. One of them is this Stuck on Initializing World issue. I came across this issue recently, and it took me hours to figure this out. The problem was only with any new account that I logged into, my main was working fine.

Keep in mind to check whether the issue is fixed or not by hopping into a casual game or you’ll end up with a penalty like me.

This error is almost 2-3 years old and you won’t find a solution to the problem even after searching for hours. After tinkering around, I have figured out what is causing the issue, continue reading to find out.

What Causes the issue?

I use a 2k Samsung Odyssey G7 Monitor, which defaults at 2k. The game was starting but was stuck as the season pass intro. I fixed this issue by adding a launch option (the full list of launch options is here). After this, I started a competitive match and my game crashed on the Initializing World screen.

The issue is caused by default or conflicting video settings, which you cannot change because you cannot launch the game. So you will have to get into technicalities. Continue reading to find the fix.

How To Fix CSGO Stuck on Initializing World

These are the solutions that fixed my problem. Follow them one by one.

1. Change Launch Options

Here are the steps for doing this:

  • Launch Steam
  • Click on Library and Left click on CS:GO
  • Go to General > Launch Options
  • Clear the window and type “-cl_disablehtmlmotd” or “+cl_disablehtmlmotd”
  • Try both one by one and try launching the game

2. Delete video config files

As mentioned earlier the issue is caused due to conflicting video files. You can fix this by deleting them, but for me, it didn’t work. So, I have uploaded the default files which you can download.

Download Video Config Files ====>

Once you have downloaded the files mentioned above, go to your installation folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\xxyouruseridxx\730\local\cfg

Now, replace video.txt and videodefaults.txt with the files you had downloaded.

Note: This file will change your video settings to the lowest settings possible. You can change them later on. This file will make sure you are able to launch or play the game.

3. Verify Game Files

I had this issue multiple times and the above two solutions fixed the problem. However, the same things cannot work for everyone so I am listing all the possible solutions. To verify your game files:

  • Go to Steam > Library
  • Locate CS:GO and right click on it
  • Click on Properties > Local Files > Click “Verify integrity of game files”
  • The steam client will now start looking for any corrupt files and will replace them if there are any.

4. Reinstall Steam

This fix was mentioned on Reddit multiple times since it worked for multiple people. This didn’t work for me though. Reinstallation of steam is pretty easy, just go to Apps and Features on Windows and uninstall steam. Once you’re done, go to this page and download Steam.

5. Reinstall CS:GO

I would say you are unlucky if the above four fixes didn’t work for you. It’s time for you to go for the last resort, which is reinstalling the game.
