Overwatch 2: Fix Slow or Stuck Download on Battle.net Launcher

Last Updated on April 10, 2023

A new update just came out, and you cannot download it due to the slow speed on Battle.net. This can be frustrating when you are excited to try out the new content. In this article, I have written about fixing slow download speeds on battle.net.

Overwatch 2 is transitioning from the old game; the developers haven’t explained anything clearly about preloading the game. One important thing that you will not find everywhere is, that you need to own the old game to be able to preload the “free-to-play” game.

Those who own the game can download Overwatch 1 and the download for preload for OW2 will start. But this is where the problem starts, the download speed for the preload will be absurdly low; for me it was 100kb/s. The fix for this is pretty simple. Continue reading to find out.

How To Fix Slow Download on Battle.net Launcher

This happens due to the preload speed limit setting in battle.net launcher. You have to change this setting to utilize full download speeds.

  • Launch Battle.net Launcher
  • Click on the Battle Logo on the top left, and then go to settings
  • Click on the Downloads Tab and locate the “Network Bandwidth” Section
  • From here, untick the “Limit download bandwidth” checkbox as shown in the picture below:
  • Click Done.

Once you have changed the settings, your download speeds will go up.

Still not getting the full download speed? – There may be some other issue that is leading to this. Continue reading to find out a few more fixes.

Restart your client

There can be multiple reasons why your game client might have become unresponsive. If you feel like that’s the case, restart the client and try downloading the update again.

Pause and Resume the Download

It sounds like a very basic solution, but this works most of the time. On Bnet launcher, you will find this very helpful.

Other Miscellaneous Fixes

Check Your Network Connection

Downloads, of course, need consistent connection. If not, you will face slow downloading problems with every game launcher. There are two things that you can do to check this:

Disconnect other devices from the network

Router Admin panels nowadays have a bandwidth monitor that can be used to find out what device is using the network. You can use this to find out any bandwidth-hogging devices and disconnect them temporarily.

Restart Your Router

Restarting the router may be necessary if you’re experiencing issues with your internet connection. This is especially true if you have a wireless network or use Wi-Fi in your home.

Use a VPN

This is the last resort, sometimes routing is not perfect from your ISP’s end. This leads to lousy download speeds. A VPN can take care of this problem. You can choose any program of your liking.
