Warhammer 40K Darktide: Fix Crashing on PC

Last Updated on December 3, 2022

Warhammer 40K Darktide Crashing: One of the most irritating things among gamers is the crashing problems. There were a few instances of Darktide crashing suddenly on my PC; one was when I was trying to change my game settings, and the other was during fights.

Crashes and AAA titles are a match made in heaven. Almost every AAA title released this year had some issue, let it be random errors, crashing, or the game not even launching for some. This is really annoying and can make everyone frustrated.

If you’re facing the crashing problem in Darktide, here are a few tweaks that can help you.

Fix Crashing in Darktide

Check System Requirements

A few users with low-end hardware reported crashes on forums and Reddit. Here are the system requirements of the game:

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit) / Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Processor: Intel i5-6600 (3.30GHz) OR AMD Ryzen 2400G (3.6 GHz)
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 OR AMD Radeon RX 570

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit) / Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Processor: Intel i7-9700K (3.70GHz) OR AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (4.2GHz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 / RTX 2060 OR AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

via Steam

The minimum requirements are insufficient to run this game at 50-60 FPS. My PC that runs on a 3080 struggled to maintain 100 FPS, and even then, I felt weird because I have a 240hz monitor, and anything below 144 makes the games look slow.

Disable Overclocking

In the game crashing fiasco, overclocking is the culprit most of the time. Some players were able to fix this issue by bringing their GPU and CPU to default frequencies. MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm are two popular tools used to overclock GPUs, both of these are known for creating problems for newer titles.

While it is unclear how many players are affected by the crashes, it is a good reminder that overclocking can be dangerous if not done correctly. It’s also worth noting that even if you don’t experience any crashes while overclocking, your system may still be unstable and could crash at any time.

Update Device Drivers & Windows

From time to time, I have seen people reporting crashes, and it turns out they haven’t updated their Graphics drivers for a while. You can easily update your graphic drivers by heading to the official websites:

Nvidia has already pushed the Game Ready Driver for Darktide called 526.98.

If you still face issues after updating drivers, a clean install using DDU can also help. Many users on Steam and Reddit have reported that downgrading GPU drivers have helped them fix crashes.

On the other hand, Updating Windows ensures you get all the performance enhancements. With every new update, Microsoft improves the speed and efficiency of the operating system. For example, with the release of Windows 11, Microsoft made several changes to improve performance, including faster startup times and improved graphics processing.

Shut down conflicting applications

This is a community recommendation; users have reported that software such as iCUE, Razer Synapse, and Armory Crate are leading to random crashes in Darktide.

These applications are unimportant to me, so I uninstall them. I’ve also heard that users running iCUE were handed out bans for no reason. However, you can never be sure about cheaters; they are known for making things up.

Scan & Repair Game Files

Verifying the integrity of game files on Steam can help resolve many issues with games not launching or crashing.

To do this:

  1. Open Steam and click on the Library tab.
  2. Right-click on Darktide 40k and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Local Files tab > the Verify Integrity of Game Files… button.
  4. Steam will start verifying the game files and fix any corrupted ones.

Disable Antivirus & Firewall

This is another traditional tweak that works most of the time.

One of the most common reasons for crashes is antivirus or firewall program interference. These programs are designed to protect your computer from harmful programs but can also block legitimate programs from running correctly.

If your game is frequently crashing, it may be due to antivirus or firewall interference. To fix this, you must add the game to your antivirus or firewall program’s list of exceptions. This will allow the game to run without interference and should help to fix the problem.

These are community fixes and traditional tweaks that have been working for years for almost all games. If you still face issues, contact Fatshark Support or wait until the devs push a hotfix.
