Cyberpunk 2077 is a title that needs no introduction, everyone in the gaming world knows about this title from CD Projekt Red. The main reason why everyone has high hopes from this game is the game is built by the same studios behind the Witcher 3. The game has been in the works since 2012, there have been numerous delays, the release date has been pushed a bunch of times already. However, the day has come, the game is finally released.

Similar to every AAA title, this game is not free from problems. Initial reviews and impressions have detailed that there are issues in the game, bugs and weird things that we’ll report as we’ll find out. Problems aren’t exactly new for AAA titles, problems are known to arise since developers can’t test the games on a huge set of machines. The configuration of every PC is so different that the developers cannot actually test everything. That’s why developers take reports and push patches in the following days.

Use Process Lasso to limit CPU usage

For some reason, the game’s priority is set to high or above normal by default due to which the CPU usage is spiking. This is also leading to lags in other apps such as discord.

Process Lasso is a software that helps you in limiting the CPU usage of a particular app. Download the software and use it accordingly, I was able to drop my CPU usage by almost 20% after using the software. Also, try switching between hyperthreading on/off, this also has a considerable improvement.

You can also turn the priority down by the steps given below.

Turn Down Game Priority

  • Press CTLR + Shift + ESC to open task manager
  • Find The Cyberpunk 2077’s exe and right-click > go to details
  • Now right-click on the process’s .exe file and set priority to “normal”.

Turn off The Second Monitor

The article has been updated with inputs from Reddit.

There is no known culprit which is leading to the spike in CPU usage. Only a few users are reporting about this. I myself had no CPU usage problem. You can try toning the game settings by using this guide. Since the culprit is unknown finding a fix or troubleshooting it becomes difficult. CD Projekt Red is recommending all users to submit reports using their client, so that is what I recommend you do.

Fix High Disk Usage

Unfortunately, there’s no fix for High Disk Usage problem. This is only happening to users who are running a 5400RPM HDD. The only fix would be moving the game installation to a faster drive or SSD if you have one installed.

High CPU Usage issue was fixed on i7-8086k, i7-8700k after following the steps given in this article. Hope this works for you too.
