Elden Ring – Fix Game Won’t Launch, Crashing

Last Updated on March 15, 2022

Elden Ring Crashing on Launch? – If this is a problem you are facing, worry no more, our guide will help you in fixing that.

Elden Ring is one of the most anticipated titles of this year. The game is developed in collaboration with game companies Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware. It is a newly designed open-world action fantasy action RPG game featuring high-quality graphics, co-op, bonfires, jumping and fighting on horseback and a lot more.

The game was initially hinted at in February 2019 by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of and director at the game development studio FromSoftware. Players have high hopes for this title because this game is developed by the same guys who created Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.

AAA titles are known for their problems, not even a single title last year was free from problems. Performance issues in a title like this are not something new, a game that has system requirements this high. On top of that, it’s hard for the devs to optimize the game for all the computers, given the vast difference in hardware. However, this is not a problem that cannot be fixed. The devs have promised that there will be updates on Day 1 to take care of most problems.

Elden Ring – Fix Game Won’t Launch, Crashing

There can be multiple reasons why Elden Ring could be crashing on your PC, here are a few things that can fix it.

Disable Overclocking

In the game crashing fiasco, overclocking is the culprit, most of the time. Some players were able to fix this issue by bringing their GPU and CPU to default frequencies. MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm are two popular tools used to overclock GPUs, both of these are known for creating problems for newer titles.

While it is not clear how many players are actually affected by the crashes, it is a good reminder that overclocking can be dangerous if not done properly. It’s also worth noting that even if you don’t experience any crashes while overclocking, your system may still be unstable and could crash at any time.

Update Graphic Drivers

When you play a video game or watch a movie, the graphics card is responsible for displaying the images on your screen. If your graphics card isn’t working properly, you may experience lag, or the images may not be displayed correctly. Updating your graphic drivers can help increase your performance and fix any display issues you may be experiencing.

From time to time I have seen people reporting crashes and turns out they haven’t updated their Graphics drivers for a while. Even Asmongold, a famous Twitch personality was using an older driver, which was leading to problems in Elden Ring Performance.

You can easily update your graphic drivers was by heading to the official websites:

Install Visual C++ Redistributables

Visual C++ redistributable is a software component that is installed on a computer to run applications developed with Visual C++. Updating or installing this has helped solved the crashing issues in multiple games we’ve covered earlier.

You can download Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One from here. Unzip the file and launch “install_all.bat” as Administrator.

Tone Down Settings

If you’re experiencing crashes while playing Elden Ring, you may need to tone down your settings. Many games have minimum system requirements in order to prevent crashes and other issues. Checking your system requirements before purchasing a game is always a good idea.

We’ve already written a guide on the best settings for Low-end PCs for Elden Ring. You can read it here.

Verify Game Files in Steam

There may be times when your game files on Steam get corrupted. This can cause the game to not work properly or not work at all. In order to fix this, you need to verify the game files. This process will scan through the game files and fix any corrupted ones. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open Steam and click on the Library tab.
  2. Right-click on Elden Ring and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Local Files tab and then click on the Verify Integrity of Game Files… button.
  4. Steam will start verifying the game files and will fix any corrupted ones it finds.

We hope this guide helped you in solving the crashing issues in Elden Ring. If you’re still experiencing problems, visit the game’s support website for help.
