Apex Legends: Fix Slow Download, Progress Stuck on Origin & Steam

Last Updated on August 10, 2022

If you are facing slow downloading issues in the new season of Apex Legends, then this article is for you.

Whenever there’s a new update, Apex devs manage to fix a few problems and break some at the same time. Many users on the forums have reported slow downloads on Origin and Steam. For some users, the download won’t progress at all.

Similar to every AAA game, Apex is also plagued with a huge number of problems even today. Every time a new map is announced, performance issues start coming up, and devs have to push multiple updates to fix the game. This season players have been facing multiple problems like users being unable to hear footsteps, performance issues and FPS drops in the new map.

Users have again reported issues while downloading the game this season (Season 13). Fixing this is easy, make sure to follow through with the tweaks we have mentioned and you will be good to go.

Restart your client

There can be multiple reasons why your game client might have become unresponsive. In this case, if you feel like that’s the case, just restart the client and try downloading the update again.

Pause and Resume the Download

It sounds like a very basic solution, but this works most of the time. On Origin, you will find this very helpful.

Use dev options (R&D Mode For Origin)

Users from India usually don’t get full download speeds on Origin. I am not sure whether this is an ISP issue or something related to the delivery network of Origin. I have a 300 Mbps connection, I usually get 30MB/s speed, but I only get 4-5MB/s on Origin which is weird. To fix this:

  • Right click on your desktop > New > Text Document
  • Open the txt file and paste this
[connection]
EnvironmentName=production[Feature]
CdnOverride=akamai
  • Click on File > Save As
  • Change the file type to All files
  • Name the file “EACore.ini” and save the file on your Desktop
  • Launch Origin.

Run Origin Client as Administrator.

Granting full admin rights might help sometimes. To do this:

  • Shut down the origin app’s exe file using task manager.
  • Right-click on the Origin app and select “Run as administrator”
  • Select “Yes” from the UAC screen that pops up.

Clean Origin Cache Files

Another thing you can do is clear Origin’s cache, to do so:

  • Shut down the origin app’s exe file using task manager. The task names are: Origin.exe and OriginWebHelperSevice.exe
  • Once that is done. Press Windows + R and type “%ProgramData%/Origin”
  • Delete everything in this folder.

These were the five things you can do to solve downloading issues on Origin. If you are a Stea user you can continue reading.

Apex Legends Download Stuck on Steam

Here are two things that you can do to fix this:

Fix Download Stuck on Steam

There can be two reasons why your download could be stuck. Your game files are being patched, if you look closely the download speed will be at 0, but your disk usage will be higher, this means that your game is downloading just fine. You need to wait.

This can take a long time to complete. If your installation is on an HDD, you might have to wait an hour. If you have an SSD available, you can install the game.

If you have confirmed that the installation is not progressing, restarting Steam might work for you.

Slow Download Speed

You can try switching your download region from the Steam settings to fix this issue:

  • Go to Steam Settings > Downloads Tab
  • Under Download Region, try switching from US/Singapore
  • Remove any download resrictions if there are any

These are all the things you can do if you face any problems. Comment below if you need any help.

Other Miscellaneous Fixes

Check Your Network Connection

Downloads, of course, need consistent connection. If not, you will face slow downloading problems on Origin and Steam Both. There are two things that you can do to check this:

Disconnect other devices from the network

Router Admin panels nowadays have a bandwidth monitor that can be used to find out what device is using the network. You can use this to find out any bandwidth-hogging devices and disconnect them temporarily.

Restart Your Router

If you’re experiencing issues with your internet connection, restarting the router may be necessary. This is especially true if you have a wireless network or use Wi-Fi in your home.
