Forspoken: 5 Ways To Fix Crashing on PC

Last Updated on January 25, 2023

Summary: Forspoken is crashing for PC users for various reasons. This can be fixed by using a few traditional tweaks.

Forspoken is probably the first big AAA launch of the year from none other than Square Enix. In Forspoken, the player will take control of the female protagonist, Frey Holland, who has been mysteriously transported to Athia, and has to make her way back home.

This might be the most demanding AAA title ever, making it evident that it won’t run well on most computers. I am saying this because most Steam users are still running a GTX1060 PC. The game also uses Denuvo, which is known as a performance killer.

Enough about the game; let’s find out how I fixed the crashing issue on my PC.

How To Fix Crashing in Forspoken PC

Here are a few tweaks that you can follow step-by-step to fix the issue. Make sure to follow them individually, as only one could be the culprit.

Disable Overclocking

In the game crashing fiasco, overclocking is the culprit most of the time. Some players were able to fix this issue by bringing their GPU and CPU to default frequencies. MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm are two popular tools used to overclock GPUs; both of these are known for creating problems for newer titles.

While it is unclear how many players are affected by the crashes, it is a good reminder that overclocking can be dangerous if not done correctly. It’s also worth noting that even if you don’t experience any crashes while overclocking, your system may still be unstable and could crash at any time.

Update Windows & Graphics Drivers

From time to time, I have seen people reporting crashes, and it turns out they haven’t updated their Graphics drivers for a while. You can easily update your graphic drivers by heading to the official websites:

On the other hand, Updating Windows ensures you get all the performance enhancements. With every new update, Microsoft improves the speed and efficiency of the operating system. For example, with the release of Windows 11, Microsoft made several changes to improve performance, including faster startup times and improved graphics processing.

Shut down conflicting applications

This is a community recommendation; users have reported that software such as iCUE, Razer Synapse, and Armory Crate are leading to random crashes in Forspoken.

These applications are unimportant to me, so I uninstall them.

Tone Down Forspoken Game Settings

Forspoken is a demanding title that won’t run well on most PCs; that’s a fact. You can view the complete system requirements on the official Steam Page.

If the tweaks mentioned didn’t work for you, you should tone down your game settings. I will be writing about the best settings for the game shortly, which should help you out.

Disable Overlays from Third Party Applications

Third-party applications tinker with the game and can make it unresponsive. If you’re facing problems, disable Discord, and Windows Game Bar, to name a few.

Discord

If you are using Discord like me, I’d recommend changing a few things. One such thing is discord overlay; it’s not something you need at all times. I use a two-monitor setup, so the overlay is useless for me. It is known for causing FPS-related issues.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in Discord

  • Open Discord
  • Click on User Settings > Appearance
  • Click on the Hardware Acceleration radio; this will turn it off.

Disable in-game Discord Overlay

  • Open Discord
  • Go to Overlay under App Settings
  • Click on the “Enable in-game overlay” to turn it off.

Windows Game Bar

  • Click Start > Settings > Gaming
  • On the Game Bar, set “Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar” to off.
  • Now head to the Captures tab and set the “Record the background while I’m playing a game” to Off.
  • You can also test turning Game Mode on or off, one by one.

Verify Game Files on Steam

To do this:

  1. Open Steam and click on the Library tab.
  2. Right-click on MW2 and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Local Files tab > click on the Verify Integrity of Game Files… button.
  4. Steam will start verifying the game files and fix any corrupted ones.

These are all the tweaks that helped my friends and me in fixing the crashing issue in Forspoken.

The game just came out, and it might be possible that some of you might still be unable to play it. Don’t worry; you should report this to Square Enix support.
