MW2: Fix Game Looking Blurry & Weird Textures

Last Updated on October 28, 2022

With each new year comes a new Call of Duty game. While some gamers get tired of the same franchise churning out new titles year after year, others can’t get enough of it. For many, the excitement of a new Call of Duty game is in the anticipation of what’s to come. Will there be any major changes to the gameplay? What new maps and modes will be added? And most importantly, which iconic characters will make a return? With each new installment, there’s always something to look forward to.

As for every new game announced in the past few years, Modern Warfare 2 also suffers from a few problems. One such game-breaking problem is the game looking blurry in many instances. This is a deal-breaker because the visibility becomes so low that you won’t be able to get a glance at your enemies and die straightaway.

Let’s find out why this is happening and how this can be fixed.

Why does this happen?

Well, this can only be explained by the developers. But for me, the issue started arising when I started Alt+Tabbing multiple times (Habit). Another instance was when I started playing in Fullscreen Windowed Mode while switching music on my second screen.

I started investigating why this was happening. Checked the Quality Settings Menu and found out that the Render Resolution went to 37 on its own (as shown in the screenshot below). The obvious fix would be changing the number back to 100. Continue reading for the steps.

Fix COD Modern Warfare 2 Looking Blurry

As mentioned earlier, this happens due to the game switching settings on its own. Your problem is either of the two:

  • The render resolution going below 100
  • Overall settings dropping down to Low

The fix is simple; just go to settings > Quality > Render Resolution > Change it back to 100.

If this doesn’t take care of your problem, scroll all the way down and locate Film Grain under Post-Processing Effects. Change the Film Grain setting from 0.25 to 0. It is also recommended to turn off World Motion Blur and Weapon Motion Blur.

For Xbox and PS5

Console users can simply fix this issue by changing these settings:

  • On-Demand Texture Streaming: On
  • Allocate Texture Cache Size: Max
  • Enable Download Limits: Off
  • Streaming Quality: Normal
  • Motion Blur: Off

Every year, millions of gamers eagerly await the release of the latest Call of Duty game. For many, it is the most anticipated event of the year. Vanguard was a good attempt, but it didn’t do well. This can’t be said for Modern Warfare 2 as the game looks refreshing in terms of visuals and gunplay.

Call of Duty® | Modern Warfare II is now available on Playstation and PC via Steam.
