MW2 Black Screen: Modern Warfare 2 is out now; users cannot hold the excitement, and the massive flurry of players has taken the MW2 servers by storm. New issues and bugs are being reported each minute on discussion forums. This time around, I will talk about the Black Screen Issue.
Call of Duty is no stranger to problems and bugs. Every single launch for the past few years has been plagued with issues in terms of performance, instability leading to crashes, and then people asking for refunds. MW2 is no different; it will take Infinity Ward at least a week to make the game stable enough so everyone can run it properly.

How To Fix Black Screen Issue in Modern Warfare 2
I always advise users to update their GPU Drivers so they can game smoothly on their PC. But this time around seems like the Nvidia Game Ready Driver update that came out yesterday (v526.47) is causing stability issues leading to the black screen, further leading to crashes and reboots.
To Fix this, BeenoxCODPC has recommended players to rollback to driver 516.59 or 522.25. Here’s the official tweet from their handle:
How To Rollback Nvidia GPU Driver?
- Press Win + R and type “devmgmt.msc” and hit enter.
- This will open the Device Manager.
- Locate your GPU name under “Display Adapters,” as shown in the image below:
- Right-click on it > Properties > Driver Tab > Click “Roll Back Driver”.
- Now, wait for Windows to take care of the Roll Back Process.
However, if the button is greyed out for you, the process will be a little longer.
Reinstall Older Nvidia Drivers
First, download DDU to remove GPU Drivers from your PC, and then use the download links mentioned below for a clean install.
According to the official Beenox handle, the stable drivers for COD are 516.59 or 522.25. Here are the download links for both:
