Last Updated on October 28, 2022

Call of Duty Warzone Season 5: Strict/Moderate NAT Fix – Warzone is a multiplayer game, in order to connect to other players online seamlessly the game requires a clean pathway. If for some reason you don’t have it, the game will show NAT type as strict or moderate. This will lead to various issues such as:

  • Problems with voice chat
  • Unable to join lobbies
  • Broken game connections
  • Unable to find matches

Call of Duty Warzone has climbed to the top and is now one of the best battle royale games of all time. The game is a AAA title that suffers from a lot of issues which can vary from performance to networking. You can handle performance issues from time to time but networking issues can become frustrating really quickly.

Note: Please read this article if you are trying to fix NAT issues in Modern Warfare 2.

Having an Open NAT ensures you are able to chat with people, join interconnected VOIP servers, host multiplayer lobbies, and so on. Basically, anything that requires your internet connection.

In this article, we will find out how what the different NAT Types are and how to change Call of Duty: Warzone NAT type for PS4PS5Xbox One, Series X, and PC.

How To Fix COD Warzone Strict or Moderate NAT

Note: This guide is applicable for both and Warzone.

What is NAT and Different NAT Types

In a nutshell, Network Address Translation (NAT) is a way to protect an internal network by masking the internal IP addresses of the machines on that network. This is done so that external networks do not see the internal IP addresses of your network and therefore cannot attempt to connect to the internal network through those addresses. You can think of it like this: Before NAT, every machine on the Internet had its own IP address.

Let’s understand what Moderate and Strict NAT are and what issues they will cause.

  • Open – Seamlessly join games, voice chats, host multiplayer lobbies and perform game network-related functions.
  • Moderate – You will never be chosen as the host of a game, and you will have trouble joining matches hosted by other players.
  • Strict – Strict NAT type is the worst. If you have this NAT type then you’ll only be able to connect to Open NAT users. Also, You will never be chosen as the host of a game.

You can find what your NAT type is by opening up the game. Nat Type 1, 2 and 3 is the same as Open, Moderate and Strict.

Two Simple Fixes: Port Forwarding and UPnP

In this article, we will cover two fixes to take care of this problem. According to official data on the Call of Duty website, this issue is very common and can be fixed very easily.

Note: Some sites on the internet will suggest you to tweak UPnP settings and Port Forwarding both. You cannot change both settings at once, if you have UPnP enabled you cannot use port forwarding. We will use change both of these settings one by one to fix the problem.

What is UPnP?

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is a set of protocols that allows devices on a local network to discover each other and establish a connection. This is done without the need for any configuration on the devices involved.

What is Port Forwarding?

Port forwarding is a simple concept that is commonly used to connect computers on the Internet. It is also used to allow a computer that is behind a router, firewall or NAT to access the Internet through another computer. The idea of port forwarding is simple. A router forwards incoming network packets from one port to another port on the same computer. In this way, you can use your computer as a proxy to access the Internet from another computer.

Now that we know what these things are, let’s proceed and fix them.

Changing NAT Type from Moderate/Strict to Open in Warzone

Ports for PC Users:

  • TCP: 3074, 27014-27050
  • UDP: 3074, 3478, 4379-4380, 27000-27031, 27036

For PC users:

  • Go to Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Status
  • Click on Properties
  • Switch between Private and Public both, one-by-one.
  • Now look at your NAT type. If it is displayed as open, then your problem is fixed. If not, then proceed to the next solution.
  • Log in to the router admin panel. The details for the same can be located on the router itself. There should be a sticker with these details.
  • Head to Advanced Settings > Check if UPnP is enabled. If not, then enable it.

If the UPnP settings didn’t work for you, head to our guide on port forwarding and use the ports mentioned above.

How to Change Your NAT Type to Open on PlayStation

NAT Types are termed as Type 1, 2 and 3 in Playstation. While the meaning remains the same, it is just displayed differently.

Ports For PS5 and PS4

TCP: 1935, 3478-3480

UDP: 3074, 3478-3479

  • Go to 192.168.1.1 to access your modem settings
  • Log in to the router admin panel. The details for the same can be located on the router itself. There should be a sticker with these details.
  • Head to Advanced Settings > Check if UPnP is enabled. If not, then enable it.
  • Because of closed ports, your NAT type might be getting affected. Just Google online and search for open ports for your modem. For example: “Tenda AC10 port forwarding”
  • Once you had the port numbers, add these as new ports using your modem admin panel.

Please read this guide on how to port forward for Call of Duty games, this will come in handy if the UPnP setting doesn’t work for you.

How to Change Your NAT Type to Open on Xbox

Ports for Xbox

TCP: 3074

UDP: 88, 500, 3074-3075, 3544, 4500

  • Go to 192.168.1.1 to access your modem settings
  • Log in to the router admin panel. The details for the same can be located on the router itself. There should be a sticker with these details.
  • Head to Advanced Settings > Check if UPnP is enabled. If not, then enable it.
  • Because of closed ports, your NAT type might be getting affected. Just Google online and search for open ports for your modem. For example: “Tenda AC10 port forwarding”
  • Once you had the port numbers, add these as new ports using your modem admin panel’s advanced settings.

I won’t recommend you tweak with ports if you are not having any trouble with finding matches and games.

For PC – NAT issues generally don’t affect PC users a lot. I myself have Moderate NAT but I am able to play games just fine.

Please read this guide on how to port forward for Call of Duty games, this will come in handy if the UPnP setting doesn’t work for you.

We’ve already written guides on fixing lagdev errorscrashes for this game. The game certainly has been a lot of fun, the control mode is among the best. It’s similar to Destiny 2 but a lot better since there are rewards for streaks, and the gunplay is overall better in Call of Duty.
