Wonderlands Crashing on Launch – One of the most awaited Looter Shooter title of this year is here. Wonderlands was first showcased in E3 2021 during Gearbox’s presentation. Of course, this hyped the Borderlands fans since this game continues the story from an older game.
Wonderlands follows the story forward from the Borderland 2 DLC “Assault on Dragon Keep”. Tiny Tina plays a tabletop game called “Bunker and Badasses” in that DLC. Wonderlands is based on that tabletop game. The game Director Will Cox had said that this game takes place right after Dragon Keep.
As expected, the performance is not that great for everyone. People on forums and Reddit are reporting issues such as lag and FPS Drops and Game Crashing on Launch. Every PC gamer is now used to these problems, at least on launch days. I am sure that developers delay titles and work hard, but most AAA devs have failed miserably for the last 2 to 3 years in terms of optimizations.
Wonderlands Crashing on Launch
Here are a few ways you can fix the crashing issues that you might be facing. Please keep in mind that these are general fixes that are known for troubleshooting. If this doesn’t help, you can wait for Gearbox for a hotfix.
Fix #1: The Reddit Method
- Press Windows + R and Type “%localappdata%\Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands\Saved”
- You will find three shaders precache files inside this folder. Delete all three of them.
Another user mentioned that disabling XMP in Bios and Disabling overclocking also helps.

Change Graphics API
The game supports both Directx 11 and 12 API. Switching from 12 to 11 has done the job for a few users on the forums I’ve been browsing. For me, there were no problems at launch.
Try this out, if it doesn’t work move to the next step.
Disable Overclocking
In the game crashing fiasco, overclocking is the culprit, most of the time. Some players were able to fix this issue by bringing their GPU and CPU to default frequencies. MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm are two popular tools used to overclock GPUs, both of these are known for creating problems for newer titles.
While it is not clear how many players are actually affected by the crashes, it is a good reminder that overclocking can be dangerous if not done properly. It’s also worth noting that even if you don’t experience any crashes while overclocking, your system may still be unstable and could crash at any time.
Update Graphic Drivers
When you play a video game or watch a movie, the graphics card is responsible for displaying the images on your screen. If your graphics card isn’t working properly, you may experience lag, or the images may not be displayed correctly. Updating your graphic drivers can help increase your performance and fix any display issues you may be experiencing.
From time to time I have seen people reporting crashes and turns out they haven’t updated their Graphics drivers for a while. You can easily update your graphic drivers was by heading to the official websites:

Install Visual C++ Redistributables
Visual C++ redistributable is a software component that is installed on a computer to run applications developed with Visual C++. Updating or installing this has helped solved the crashing issues in multiple games we’ve covered earlier.
You can download Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One from here. Unzip the file and launch “install_all.bat” as Administrator.
Tone Down Settings
If you’re experiencing crashes while playing Wonderlands, you may need to tone down your settings. Many games have minimum system requirements in order to prevent crashes and other issues. Checking your system requirements before purchasing a game is always a good idea.
Verify Game Files using Epic Games Launcher
There may be times when your game files on Epic get corrupted. This can cause the game to not work properly or not work at all. In order to fix this, you need to verify the game files. This process will scan through the game files and fix any corrupted ones. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open Epic Games and go to your Library.
- Go to Wonderlands and click on the “…” button as shown in the image below:
- Epic Launcher will now start verifying your game files. If there’s anything broken it will be taken care of.
The overall process can take a while since the launcher verifies all the files. This will take longer for users that have their games installed on HDD.
Check If Your Antivirus is causing the problem
If you’re a PC gamer, you’ve probably encountered the problem of a game crashing soon after launch. This is especially common with games that are downloaded from Steam or other digital distribution platforms. In many cases, the crash is caused by Windows Defender blocking the game executable file.
Windows Defender is a built-in antivirus program that comes pre-installed on Windows 10 computers. By default, it’s set to automatically scan all files and programs for viruses and other malware. This can cause problems for gamers who want to play their new games without any interruptions.

Update Windows
The recent couple updates were weird and broke a lot of games, to fix those issues, Windows has already pushed out hotfixes and you can download them right away. If you are running an older version of Windows, I’d recommend you download the updated version.
There was also an update that caused windows to use up a lot of RAM for its search bar’s function called Cortana. This also has been fixed, you just have to update.
Why Should You Update Windows?
One of the main reasons to update Windows is for performance enhancements. With every new update, Microsoft improves the speed and efficiency of the operating system. For example, with the release of Windows 10, Microsoft made several changes to improve performance, including faster startup times and improved graphics processing.
Another reason to update Windows is for security enhancements. Each new update includes security patches and fixes that help protect your computer from malicious software and hackers. For example, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update included several security enhancements, including a new feature called Windows Hello that allows you to sign in to your computer using facial recognition.
